Trauma and Addiction

Trauma can be described as an event or events that have taken place in a person’s life and have
caused a lasting negative or unpleasant reaction in their mind, body or spirit. Trauma treatment
is a unique type of treatment that incorporates multiple styles of methods and modalities to form
a gentle and healing treatment environment. Unresolved trauma manifests itself in a number of
self destructive ways that include self harm, eating or restricting to mollify negative feelings,
gambling, workaholism and internet addiction. These behaviors become a way to deal with the
pain of the underlying trauma.
Judy will discuss the ways to use holistic approaches and experiential methods to treat trauma
survivors.
Dr. Uram will share her expertise on trauma and how our brain can ultimately derail us from the
directions in our lives that are important to us.
Dr. Dayton will discuss
her approach using socioometry and psychodrama in treating issues related to PTSD and the
ACOA trauma syndrome.
