\nTrauma and Addiction

\nTrauma can be described as an event or events that have taken place in a person\u2019s life and have
\ncaused a lasting negative or unpleasant reaction in their mind, body or spirit. Trauma treatment
\nis a unique type of treatment that incorporates multiple styles of methods and modalities to form
\na gentle and healing treatment environment. Unresolved trauma manifests itself in a number of
\nself destructive ways that include self harm, eating or restricting to mollify negative feelings,
\ngambling, workaholism and internet addiction. These behaviors become a way to deal with the
\npain of the underlying trauma.
\nJudy will discuss the ways to use holistic approaches and experiential methods to treat trauma
\nsurvivors.
\nDr. Uram will share her expertise on trauma and how our brain can ultimately derail us from the
\ndirections in our lives that are important to us.
\nDr. Dayton will discuss
\nher approach using socioometry and psychodrama in treating issues related to PTSD and the
\nACOA trauma syndrome.
