    • Truth And Beauty

Today I realize that truth and beauty are at one with a Higher Power. There is so much more beauty in this world than I am able to take in. There are skies and meadows, oceans and rugged hills, animals, birds and people. Truth is everywhere in the symmetry of nature, in the perfection of [...]

    • The Dream of Perfection

One of the surest paths toward feelings of inadequacy and an inability to move forward in life is to set unrealistic goals for myself. That is, to have standards that represent “getting there” that are so high that I always fall short. More likely, the effect of these overly high standards will be to keep [...]

    • Where Am I In Nature?

Today I accept my true place in the nature of things. I am neither nothing nor am I everything. I am a connecting link between the earth and the heavens. I have the natures of both a beast and a saint. I am capable of greatness or meanness. I am all of this, wide and [...]

    RTR Therapist’s Guide
The Therapist’s Guide is the group leader’s “constant companion” while running the experiential, healing groups of the RTR model. This easy to follow, step-by-step guide is laid out in eight, units that cover the full spectrum of healing from relationship trauma. The guide is designed to make the therapist’s job informed and simplified and the client’s experience user friendly and focused.

    RTR Personal Journal
The Personal Journal teaches the skills of emotional literacy and processing of feelings. There is never enough time in group to process all of the feelings that come up or may emerge throughout a healing process. That’s why each client has their own Personal Journal in which they can process their feelings fully and personally and take home with them as a personal record of their recovery journey.

RTR Teaching/Training DVD’s with personal stories
Witness real and true stories as group members move through the exercises in the RTR model. These moving CDs are designed to educate clients about the psychological and emotional issues related to relationship trauma and PTSD, as well as train therapists in how to use this model.

    RTR Guided Imageries CDs
RTR’s guided imageries are designed to teach skills of self soothing and the processing of emotions. Guided imageries make intentional, healing use of the natural trance state that people move in and out of many times a day, like when watching TV. These imageries can be pur-chased, so that skills used in treatment can be practiced, internalized and a piece of “treatment” can be taken home to help with the transition. Available as apps thru itunes store or emotionexplorer.com

An Experiential, Multi-sensory Model for Relationship Trauma and PTSD

We are biologically wired to seek close and ongoing connection; to form relationship bonds that are powerful enough to ensure that mates pair bond, parents attach to children and children attach to parents. This intense form of body/mind bonding helps to ensure our survival as a species. When these bonds are threatened by abuse, neglect or separation, we can experience it as traumatic, as a challenge to what we need to survive. Relationship trauma is the kind of emotional and psychological trauma that occurs within the context of these “survival” relationships. The effects relationship trauma can manifest as post traumatic stress reaction PTSD, wherein pain, anger and anxiety from early relationships gets recreated and lived out in subsequent relationships throughout life. Though we may be far away from the original “trauma”, its effects remain with us.

Relationship bonds are forged and strengthened within both the body as well as the mind. Love or attachment is rewarded by soothing and energizing body chemicals and rupture or neglect, by disturbing stress chemicals that can, over time, disrupt physiological, emotional and psychological balance. Our fight/flight/freeze apparatus becomes overused, we see saw from states of high intensity to shut down and have a hard time balancing our intense trauma related emotions once they become triggered. Our moods get thrown off balance. We can become hypervigilant, anxious, depressed or withdrawn. Relationship Trauma/ PTSD can be caused by: living with addiction / divorce/relationship ruptures of all kinds/ abuse, neglect or mental illness. RTR is an experiential, multisensory model, created to help those suffering from “relationship trauma” or post traumatic stress disorder PTSD to heal and restore body/mind calm and balance. RTR is designed to be used in treatment centers, clinics or as an adjunct to one to one therapy. It can be used as a whole or parts of the model can be adapted to the needs or requirements of the particular setting.
